Minor Tweaks that can Make your Kitchen Feel Remodeled

Want a new kitchen, but don’t want to spend the money or on a major renovation.   Improve your space with these remodeling ideas.

Look at your kitchen with is pros and cons and decide what can be accomplished now and what can be done at a later date.

  • Giving the walls, ceiling and trim a fresh coat of paint will brighten your kitchen.  It’s important to do all three to maximize the results.  Lighting also brightens your room and has the psychological effect of making your kitchen feel brighter, more cheerful and easier to work in.  Change small ceiling mounted lights for large or brighter energy efficient fixtures creating a more luxurious feel.   Under cabinet lighting can add brightness.  You can buy under cabinet lighting that is plugged into the nearest outlet.
  • Adding trim to baseboards, crown molding, and door and window casings gives a new feel to the room. A trim carpenter can help you if you don’t have the tools or can’t do the perfect square for lining up the edges – it’s got to be done right.
  • Today’s appliances have a sleek appearance and although it’s nice to maintain the same quality throughout a nice stainless steel professional range can be paired with a lower priced stainless steel refrigerator. If new appliance(s) are not in the budget, replace old or worn parts like burners on the stove, knobs on the dishwasher or shelves in the refrigerator.
  • A luxury look can be achieved by using a textured glass in a feature cabinet or insert plain glass into a couple of cabinet door fronts as a focal point and display your decorative serving pieces. Frosted or etched glass inserts hide shelves full of non-display worthy dishes while adding visual interest and a custom look
  • Update your cabinets and drawers with after-market items like spice o cutlery trays, lazy susan, roll out shelving, pot and pan organizer which is ideal to get a custom kitchen without replacing the cabinets.
  • A monochromatic or custom designed backsplash can add great appeal. Consider mixing tile shapes to create a custom design   Remember to use easy to clean material.  Rough or textured surfaces are difficult to clean.
  • Quality knobs are worth the extra dollars. Cheaper knobs are light weight, usually made of cheap metal and hollow inside and will need replacing in a couple of years.   To make the installation easier choose handles or knobs with a slightly bigger screen than our existing as the screw hole will be worn over time and you need to get a good drip in the wood.
  • Without lifting a hammer, you can “stage” your kitchen with artfully arranged plates, decorative items, rugs, flowers and add instant beauty to your room.
  • Focus on the logical order of repairs and improvements allowing you to identify things you can tackle in the short term while saving for the bigger projects. If cabinets are ok, replace the counter top for a new look.  Flooring is always a nice upgrade.
