Living in Shelburne

The Town of Shelburne is located at the intersection of Highway 10 and Highway 89 in the middle of Dufferin County. Shelburne is the fastest growing Town in Ontario and the second-fastest growing Town in all of Canada.It is best known for the Canadian Championship Fiddling Contest;part of the Heritage Music Festival.

 The Town was first established in anticipation of the Toronto, Grey and Bruce Railway. Founder, William Jellybuilt a tavern the “British Canadian House” in the 1860s. The early commercial buildings were log and wood structures most of which were destroyed by fire in the late 1880s. All were replaced by brick buildingswhich line the historic Main Street you see today including the Town Hall and Grace Tipling Concert Hall. Take the self-guidedHistoric walking tour to learn more.

 Owner and Chef Frederic Chartier of Beyond the Gateat 138 Main Street, West, uses his passion and fresh local produce to create assorted crepes and other French delicacies for lunch or dinner.Beyond the Gate is literally on the edge of Shelburne, the last storefront, just beyond the gate. For more great food try Main St. Café, Healthy Cravings Holistic Kitchen, Shannon’s Tap & Grill, Dufferin Public House, or Hyland Fish & Chips. The 6,500 sq.ft. hydroponic greenhouse at the Besley Country Marketproduces more than 25,000 pounds of tomatoes a year. Brian, Debbie and their son Evan Besley also work with local farmers and suppliers to bring the very best Dufferin County has to offer.  For library services the Shelburne Public Library is located at 201 Owen Sound Street or online at www.shelburnelibrary.ca Serving Shelburne, Amaranth, Melancthon, Mono and Mulmur.

For recreation there are a variety of green spaces and urban parks for hiking and cycling, including a BMX park. The Centre Dufferin RecreationComplex has a seasonal heated outdoor pool and an arena for hockey and figure skating. Both the pool and arena can be rented.

 Shelburne Fire Departmenthave transferred emergency dispatching from Orangeville Police (OPS) to Tillsonburg Fire Dispatching Services.Shelburne Fire Department is at 114 O’Flynn Street.  Schools visit the UGDSB’s School Locater to determine which of the three elementary schools your child is eligible to attend.
